Cuomo Names Former Syracuse Mayor To Distressed Cities Board

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has appointed former Syracuse mayor Matt Driscoll to a new state panel that will work with distressed cities to manage their finances and be more efficient.

Driscoll, the only member of the 10-person board with any mayoral experience, is an interesting choice given Syracuse's recent history of financial problems. Mayor Stephanie Miner said in a statement that, "I applaud any and all efforts, including the Financial Restructuring Board, which discuss these issues and may bring solutions to affected minorities." Driscoll is currently the president and CEO of the state Environmental Facilities Corporation.
