Syracuse, N.Y. – The Governor is shutting down part of I-81 due to the expected snowfall in the Tug Hill Plateau.
“As this new winter storm develops, bringing heavy snow and high winds, I strongly urge all citizens in these regions to exercise caution, avoid travel, and stay indoors,” Governor Cuomo said. “To ensure an effective and rapid response to this winter storm, I am declaring a state of emergency, so resources can get to communities where they are needed as quickly as possible.”
The region between Exits 31 & 45 is expected to get nearly three feet of snow over the next 36 hours – at some points falling at about four inches an hour.
Earlier Monday the Governor announced a closure of the Thruway West of Buffalo to the Penn. border. Both stretches of interstate highway will reopen when conditions allow.
