Six Children Found Living in Squalor

Chenango County Sheriffs Deputies say it's the worst case they've ever seen.

Six children have been removed from a North Norwich trailor after police uncovered squalid living conditions.

Sheriff Ernest Cutting Junior told 570 WSYR that they were intially called to the home after a complaint was received about animal abuse. They found two dogs in the trailor, but also found six children, ages 9 to 17, living in horrific conditions.

The Sheriff says there were feces and urine all over the walls and on the floor of the trailor. Part of the roof had also collapsed. There was no running water and two of the children were found running around the trailor naked and playing in feces.

The Sheriff says the stench inside the home was overwhelming and the trailor has now been condemned.

There were four adults also living in the home and they have now been charged with multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child and cruelty to animals.

The children are now staying with relatives after the Department of Social Services was notified.
