Syacuse Police Arrest 8 In Bar Disturbance Turned Near-Riot

A disturbance at a bar near the Syracuse University campus turned into a near-riot when Syracuse police confronted as many as 300 people and ultimately arrested eight of them.

Police were called to Faegan's Bar on South Crouse about several people refusing to leave the premises. Officers found about 15 people in the rear parking lot who had been asked to leave after a disturbance inside the bar. The group became unruly when police asked them to leave, and started towards the bar employees. Police interceded to keep the crowd from coming into contact with bar staff, and they turned on police. They blocked traffic on South Crouse and refused to disperse.

More police and help from SU's Public Safety officers arrived as the attention caused the crowd to grow to about 300.
